Paula Smith

Biography

Paula Smith is a highly experienced and versatile musician who is equally acclaimed for her vocal talent.

Originally classically trained, Paula studied both clarinet and piano to beyond grade eight level. She discovered Irish Traditional Music in the mid-nineties, taking up the Celtic harp and tin whistle, which, along with the guitar and her "haunting and meandering voice" (Traditional Music Maker) now form the central core of her instrumental repertoire.

From 1996-2000, Paula was a member of Kindred Spirit with Elaine Samuels, performing at venues and festivals from Devon to Cumbria. In 2000, she moved to the west coast of Ireland where she enjoyed an 18 month residency at the luxurious Gregan's Castle Hotel, Ballyvaghan, Co Clare. She then moved to Dublin where she formed The Cathode Ray Mission with Eoin Cotter, who founded the Irish Music Network. In 2002, Paula toured Queensland, Australia. During a live radio appearance, Damien Lee, a presenter on Radio 4EB, Brisbane, called her "incredibly talented".

Now permanently back in England, Paula continues to be in demand as a dep for Irish, Folk and Barn Dance bands.
